Kavitha was studying in Madura College. Like many other girls she too was not interested in Cricket. There was an intercity cricket competition going on in the college. When fate calls, can anybody deny? She went to watch the cricket match that day due to her friends compulsion. That day match was between her own Madura college team and the rival American college in the city. Vijay is the star opening batsman in American college cricket team. Due to his hard hitting stroke play, he also plays for the district level team and nicknamed “Sixer Vijay”. Kavitha entered the stadium which was silent since Vijay was smashing the ball all around the ground. Before she could realize, what had happened a hard object hit her forehead and she immediately felt liquid oozing out. Kavitha was hit by a sixer of Vijay. Kavitha was taken to the hospital for the stiches. In the meantime, Vijay was unstoppable that day. He scored an unbeaten century bagging the Man of the Match. Vijay was overjoyed and after reaching the pavilion, he saw there was a verbal fight between Madura and American college spectators since the ball had hit the forehead of a beautiful Madura college girl by the rival American college boy.
Vijay felt bad and went to the crowd that was fighting. They showed him the ball that had the blood stain and they said that her beautiful face will have a stitch mark. He apologized and felt sorry that his six had hit the beautiful girl. He took his bike and went to the hospital where Kavitha was getting treated. On seeing Kavitha, the rock like batsman began to melt. She was stunning in beauty. Kavitha asked Vijay the cricket ball which had hit her. Vijay went to his bike and took the blood stained cricket ball from the side carrier and on the way, he picked up one tissue paper and wrote a note “Iam sorry-how can I correct it?” and silently handed over the ball wrapped in the tissue paper to Kavitha. Vijay left the hospital since many friends were with Kavitha.
Next day, Vijay went to the same hospital and took the address of Kavitha and went to her home to see her recovery. Vijay gave her oranges and Horlicks bottle and noticed the cricket ball in her table with band aid affixed to the ball. Vijay had a smile looking at the cricket ball with two crossed band aids. Few days later, Vijay went to the Madura college bus-stop looking for Kavitha. On seeing Vijay, Kavitha asked “Have you come to play another match in our college ground and hit another forehead?” Vijay smiled and said “No, I want to see the scar on your forehead daily all through my life!” Sun was waiting to set but they were keep on talking and Sun went to the west. Love blossomed between the two hearts slowly and steadily. Kavitha has the habit of writing diary and she writes every meeting in her diary in the night before she goes to bed.
Both the families agreed mutually for their marriage not knowing that a sad chapter is going to open in a short while time away!
Vijay and Kavitha got married. Vijay got a private job as an effluent treatment engineer and both left to the new city and were soon blessed with a lovely girl. Kavitha cooks daily for Vijay and sends him food so Vijay should not take the food from the company canteen. Days goes on and one day, as a part of his routine work, he and his colleague were walking over the sheet which covers the deep effluent canal. His colleague stepped in the torn part of the sheet and when he fell inside tearing the sheet, Vijay grasped his hand and both fell into the effluent. Company emergency siren went ON and the search started from the afternoon and in the evening the crane could only retrieve black bodies. The lunch box returned to Kavitha with the food inside and that was the last lunch for Vijay. Kavitha was shattered totally in her life. She left that city with her little daughter to her parents home. It took many years for Kavitha to recover from the shock, life had given her and she was not aware that one more shock is about to come her way.
Kavitha started to work for bringing up her only daughter Anjali. Anjali was a bright student and after her graduation, she got rejected in every job interviews for nearly 4 years. She was constantly thinking to end her life due to the rejections and struggles she was facing. She did not say anything to her mother. Due to frustration, she decided to end her life when her mother went to work.
Same time in the other part of the city, a young boy Samuel who was recklessly driving his race bike met with an accident. Samuel was taken to the hospital seriously and was badly in need of blood.
When Kavitha left the home for work, Anjali wrote a letter to her mother and was getting prepared to end her life.
In the hospital, where Samuel was admitted, the receptionist dialed + XX XXXXX XXX01 instead of + XX XXXXX XXX11. That was Anjali’s mobile number!
When Anjali was opening the bottle to end her life’s journey, her mobile rang. Anjali decided to take the call as a last call and was hearing the trembling female voice of “Urgent blood wanted at this hospital”. Anjali disconnected the call and immediately the mobile was ringing again. It was the same lady asking for blood by redialing the same “Wrong number”. Anjali decided to donate blood since it will help someone instead of her blood getting dried and boil in flames after her end. Anjali went to the hospital and donated her universal donor blood to Samuel and saved his life. Samuel’s parents were so happy and were in tears to see Samuel back from the brink of death. Samuel’s parents thanked Anjali and asked her what she wanted? That moment, Anjali thought of how her mother Kavitha would have felt if she had left the world and equally was very happy that she could save one precious life in this world.
Anjali realized the love of her only parent and the hardships she has taken for upbringing in her entire life and how she played a role in one family by her noble help of donating blood. Anjali said, I don’t want anything except my mother’s love and very happy that I have given a new life. She left the hospital and went to her home. Kavitha has the habit of reading her old diary and seeing the cricket ball crossed with band aid often thinking of Vijay’s memories and keep under the pillow. That day, due to hurry she left it in the kitchen. On reaching home, Anjali went to the kitchen to burn the letter that she had written to her mother and noticed the diary 1991. For the first time, she read her mother’s diary which was in the kitchen and tears was flowing down the cheeks while she was reading. She flung the bottle into the dust bin. When Kavitha reached home, Anjali hugged her mother for a long time, kissed her with tears and for the first time caressed the scar in her mother’s forehead, which Vijay had gifted Kavitha!
Men and women out in this world, pls don’t end your life due to failures / frustrations / struggles / disappointments. Move on, life is a long journey to be traveled.
Donate blood, you are giving life to life!
